Comments
Fastball:McGeary topped out at 91 mph in his first start of the season and threw comfortable in the 86-90 mph range.
FB Movement:His fastball is pretty light and straight.
Curve:His best pitch. McGeary's curve has the chance to be a plus pitch.
Changeup:A definite third pitch. McGeary showed it from time to time. He's got a feel for it, but it's behind the curve.
Control:McGeary's command and control were pretty good, though he struggled at times to adjust when he was up in the zone.
Poise:McGeary showed very good mound presence and poise throughout his start.
Physical Description:McGeary is a pretty physical left-hander, a decent athlete who will get bigger as he matures.
Medical Update:Healthy.
Strengths:Excellent mound presence and a breaking ball that has the chance to be a plus pitch.
Weaknesses:He's got a drop and drive delivery. Because of his arm slot, he loses some leverage and plane to his fastball, causing it to be straighter and lighter than you'd normally see from a lefty.
Summary:It's a good high school class of southpaws and McGeary is one of them, though he may trail a few of the other prep stars from around the country. Still, he's got the chance to have a good three-pitch mix with a good idea of how to pitch. He'll need to develop his changeup because he'll have to change speeds and command the ball well at the next level.
